How to Increase Visibility on Instagram

If you're a spiritual entrepreneur, Instagram serves as a very important digital "storefront". It can help us nurture different parts of our sales funnel and expose our content to brand new followers. But with an endless sea of content and a finicky algorithm, growing your Instagram audience can feel daunting. So....how the heck do you increase your visibility on Instagram as an entrepreneur?! Entrepreneurship is all about experimentation; taking consistent, messy action to see what works for you and your soulmate clients. This month, i'm taking a deep dive into increasing visibility to grow my Instagram audience, and i'm taking you with me!


Here are the lessons, best practices, and hacks i've come across to help increase visibility on the Instagram platform:

  1. Engagement rules – remember that Instagram's priority is to keep people on the app. If you want to increase your visibility, make sure your content encourages engagement (think watch time, commenting, saving, etc.)

  2. Growth takes time – unless you're spending boatloads on ads (which I do not recommend unless you are crystal clear on your soulmate clients and messaging), growing your audience will take time. If you feel like you're shouting into the void, you're not alone! Keep building and trust the process.

  3. Consistency is key – posting consistently—in both frequency and topic—will help you refine your brand voice, gather valuable insights on the types of content and posting schedules that resonate with your clients, and train the algorithm to show your content to the right audience.

  4. Message clarity - if you are not clear on your niche/offering, neither will your clients or the algorithm.

  5. Hooks & captions – using hooks in your captions and at the beginning and end of your carousels/reels are a great way to draw someone in to your content (and keep them there longer!). Be sure to include a CTA of some sort in all of your posts!

  6. Comments, saves, and shares – these high engagement actions show the Instagram algorithm that people like your content. Give your audience a reason to take these actions by posting valuable content, thought-provoking questions, freebies, and giveaways.   7. Trending audio/music – I'm still experimenting with this one, but using popular music and audio can theoretically help increase engagement and visibility. Check out what's trending by going to "trending audio" in your professional dashboard on mobile.

  8. Make it shareable – think about the type of content you engage with most frequently and emulate it. This could mean humor, education, or something super relatable. (pro tip: reuse this content across all of your media channels to streamline creation)

  9. Know your audience – best practices and trends are great, but relating to your audience is always the ultimate hack. This always comes back to having a deep understanding of your soulmate client, the language they speak, their pain points, and what messaging resonates with them. Pay close attention to your data analytics so you can see patterns of engagement and hone in on what's works for them.


Social media growth can be a slow process, and virality is a fickle phenomenon. Approaching Instagram visibility from this lens can take a lot of the pressure off and hopefully you can even have some fun creating.
